AGPO Frequently Asked Questions

Who qualifies for AGPO tenders in Kenya?+

AGPO (Access to Government Procurement Opportunities) is available to businesses at least 70% owned and managed by youth (aged 18–35), women, or persons with disabilities. The business must be registered in Kenya and hold a valid AGPO certificate from the National Treasury portal.

How do I register for AGPO in Kenya?+

Register at agpo.go.ke with your business registration documents, KRA PIN, and proof of ownership by the qualifying group. Once approved, you receive an AGPO certificate valid for three years. The certificate qualifies you to bid on the 30% of government procurement reserved for AGPO groups.

What percentage of government tenders are reserved for AGPO?+

The Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act reserves 30% of all government procurement for the three AGPO groups: youth (18–35), women, and persons with disabilities. This applies to both national and county government procurement.

Can I apply for both AGPO and regular open tenders?+

Yes. Holding an AGPO certificate does not prevent you from bidding on unreserved open tenders. You can compete in the open market as well as in AGPO-reserved lots. Some large tenders are also split into lots, with certain lots reserved for AGPO suppliers.
